Can y'all believe they are actually making a remake of The Stepfather? Such sacrilidge! I watched the remake of Annie and it just isn't nearly as good as the original.

I dunno. I loved Willy Wonka, but loved, loved, loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Laughed at the original Punisher when it wasn't meant to be funny, laughed at the remake cause it was supposed to be funny.
Now... I love Gene Wilder, and like I said, loved the original Willy Wonka. But I liked the newer version more. That being said, new love doesn't take away from old love. (The whole Gene Wilder being Satan kinda makes me wince, though...)
I am desperately awaiting the Hellraiser remake. (But I wish Clive were directing and writing instead of just writing. And even if my boy Doug isn't Pinhead, I'll still see it in theaters. Oh, god, I love Doug in Pinhead makeup. Not out of so much. Which seems off topic, but my point is no matter how much I respect an actor, or am in lust with him, or respect a director/movie, remakes aren't necessarily a bad thing. Although, yes, I am going to pregnant dog if Doug doesn't come back as Pinhead - but I'll still go see the movie and give it a chance, so I'm not a total hypocrite, grins.)
Oh, yeah, and I love the original Hairspray, and can't wait to see the new one. Even despite *shudder* John Travolta in a fat-suit *and* drag. Just, um, ick...
My point is... just cause something seems sacrilegious, doesn't mean it is. Seeing as I haven't seen the original, and know nothing about the remake, I guess I'm pretty far removed from it. But I guess I'm just making a general point about remakes and so on.
I do hope that it's not just rehashing the old movie. One of the things I hate is when a movie comes out... and is the same movie with better makeup/special effects. I'm watching Fear of the Flesh on The Fly DVD and Cronenburg/crew talk about why and how his screenplay is different from the older one. He saw the flaws in the original and did something new to work around them. He didn't just make the same movie, and that intrigues me much more than same movie, new special effects.
And, um, I hope this isn't considered too OT. I know it's not Terry-centric, but it was - at least in my mind - a direct counter point to the sacrilege/Annie point. (You have a valid point; some remakes suck. I'd just urge you not to base your 'this remake will suck' based on one example of remakes sucking and your love of Terry - but on the movie instead.) I guess the real question I'd have is have you seen previews/heard anything to lead you to believe that this remake in particular will suck?

Well, considering the original Stepfather was Terry's coming out, as it were, I think it's sacrilidge to remake it. LOL No, I don't know that it will suck. I just don't like the idea of someone other than Terry playing the Stepfather. Terry is Jerry Blake.

Like I said.... I mean... Doug Bradley *is* Pinhead. Period. No one else should play him. Now that's another sacrilege in my mind.
But.... I've heard that he's in talks, he's out of talks, etc, etc... I'm just saying I'm not going to completely condemn a remake for one aspect.
I dunno why, to be honest, but I just felt like I had to say something in defense of the remake. lol.

I'm not saying the remake won't be good. Although, to be honest, how many really are? Then again, how many have been made over the years? Heh. My point is, sure a remake might be good, but it will never compare to the original.

I understand that a love of an actor may damper the love of a remake, but I think sometimes remakes can surpass the original sometimes. So when you say compare, I guess you mean can't compare in a bad way... I don't really believe that to hold true all the time.
Sometimes one is right. I pooh-poohed the remake of psycho from the beginning and when I finally got around to watching it.... it wasn't horrible but it wasn't nearly as good as the original. (is what you get for trying to remake hitchthingy I say...)
But... yeah.... I guess I don't really think you're wrong in general; I just on principal can't really agree to condemn a movie before I hear anything about it or see a preview.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

But I've never condemned the movie. I just condemned the idea of remaking it without Terry O'Quinn. LOL
Speaking of remakes, I liked the remake of The Shining. But NO ONE can compare to Jack Nicholson.

I see little difference - er, if I'm allowed to be a bit of a pregnant dog - between the two. Unless, of course, Terry's in he remake.
Just coming from a hopefully unbiased POV, I see no reason to automatically assume the movie will be bad, much less worse than the original.
*ducks and hides*

Dex, I NEVER said the movie will be bad nor did I say it would be worse than the original.
Did you reallize the pregnant dog change. I had to laugh out loud. LMAO!

um, yes, I am a pregnant dog. Who can type.
Ah... Okay... well, just usually sacrilage doesn't imply that it will be good.

Uh, no, it's a scarilage that they want to remake it without Terry as Jerry.

Apparently someone else agrees with me. The Stepfather - Terry O'Quinn was so eerily scary in this role, I have a hard time believing anyone could be as convincing.
